Smelling of Zelda

The brain associates some damn strange things. I’ve had the occasional sensually-driven synaptic throwback to a street in Madrid or a winter in Northern California, but yesterday must’ve been the most bizarre olfactory association I’ve ever experienced.

A girl, who apparently had just finished a short shower in perfume, walked past my nose and suddenly I was stricken with the unexplicable desire to play Zelda. Actually, it was more of a combination of 2/3 Zelda and 1/3 Super Mario Brothers, but it was definitely a vision of NES.

I can’t quite explain how or why, but since I was never allowed to own a console game when I was younger it must’ve been a friend’s mother or sister or grandmother who wore that same perfume while we sat for hours hitting U – U – D – D – L – R – L – R – B – A – Start.

Either way, pretty damn strange.
