Textpattern plugin: ajw_technorati

This plugin is no longer supported

There is now a full-featured tagging plugin for Textpattern, tru_tags.

Summary

Sick of hacking Textpattern source to find a reliable way of ensuring Technorati and other indexing services actually can see your article tags?

Hack no more!

This plugin extends Textpattern’s default feed functionality by adding an article’s tags (keywords) as categories to your site’s RSS/Atom. This will make your RSS and Atom more semantically-rich, which makes it easier for web crawlers to categorize your content.

Installation & Usage

Simply download, install and enable the plugin, that’s it! With the plugin enabled, keywords will automatically be added to your feeds as categories.

You can then use Technorati’s ping service (or some bulk ping service like Pingomatic) to announce to the world when your site has been updated.

Read Technorati’s explanation of tags to learn more about the purpose of tagging your articles with keywords.

Template Tag: ajw_technorati_tags

Provided with this plugin is a Textpattern template tag allowing you to display your article’s keywords anywhere on your site. Read the documentation for details as to its usage.

I am using tru_tags on my site. In cooperation with new features in TXP >= 4.0.4 it can add keywords as tags and categories to your feed.

Plus many tag features directly on your site.

I think I’ll officially retire this plugin (and its predecessor) and refer everyone to tru_tags, since it looks to be an all-in-one solution.
